Accessing files and Resources from Off-Campus (and more)

[Sent via email August 28. 2008]

Welcome back!  We hope the new email system is meeting your needs. We have just implemented the following new service to access files from off campus:

A  VPN (Virtual Private Network) for the use of the community when off campus which provides secure access to files stored on our system.  This service is a replacement for Novell’s “NetStorage,” and is now available to students and to those who have had their computers (and most importantly the associated networked files) transitioned to the new desktop environment. See for more information: http://www.brynmawr.edu/is/isir/documents/OffCampusAccess_000.pdf

(For staff and faculty who have not yet been transitioned, NetStorage will continue to be the way to access your files).

If you have any other questions about new computing services, take a look at: http://www.brynmawr.edu/is/isir/

We have also made a number of changes to the physical environment at Canaday Library and we hope that when you visit, you will like what you see:

The Language Learning Center has been moved from Denbigh. It is now located in a suite of rooms on the 3rd floor of Canaday Library.

The Information Access and Delivery Department (IAD), the “back office” of the libraries, has been refurbished. It is located on the main floor of the library, adjacent to the reference collection.

Secure compact shelving for manuscripts, prints and other rare materials has been installed on the “B” level of Canaday.

We also welcome two new members of the Special Collections Department: Emily Croll and Marianne Weldon have joined us in the roles of Curator and Collections Manager of our College’s Collections.

Best,

Elliott Shore
Chief Information Officer and Director of Libraries
