Changes in Information Services: Canaday Library Reserves

Posted July 23rd, 2009 at 8:44 am.

Dear Members of the Bryn Mawr College Community,

This is the second message from Information Services this summer detailing significant changes to our services and staffing patterns for the 2009-2010 academic year.

This message details changes to policy and procedures affecting:

  • Faculty placing materials on reserve
  • Students checking out reserve materials
  • Students with carrels in Canaday
  • Anyone who borrows library materials

Book and Video Reserves in Canaday

Faculty: Effective immediately, Canaday Library will accept requests for reserve materials via an online form only.  The forms can be found here:

All Canaday reserves will be kept on open shelves near the Circulation Desk, accessible to students for browsing.  All items circulate for 3 hours at a time and may leave the library.

Books on Reserve

  • A maximum of ten library books per course can be put on reserve.
  • Personal Copy Books will no longer be cataloged or circulated through Tripod. Faculty may bring personal copy items to Canaday, where they will be put on open reserve shelves for students to read.

Videos & DVDs on Reserve

  • A maximum of twenty library videos per course can be put on reserve
  • Videos will be kept in security cases and must be checked out at the Circulation Desk

Self Check-Out

This fall, Canaday will pilot a self check-out station for circulating library materials.  Stop by and give it a try!  The station will be located near the Circulation Desk and may be used for most non-video check-outs.  Let us know how you like it.

Student Carrels in Canaday

Canaday student carrels may be claimed on a first-come, first-served basis, and are available to seniors and graduate students.  No application or reservation is necessary; Circulation keeps no list of carrel assignments.  To claim your carrel:

  • Select an unassigned carrel (one without a Carrel Assignment Card posted)
  • Stop by the Circulation Desk for a Carrel Assignment Card.  Bring your OneCard with you so that we can verify your status
  • Fill out the card and post it in your carrel

Fines and Bills

No money will be collected in the libraries.  At the end of each month, all student fines and bills will be forwarded to the Controller’s office for collection.
