Changes in using Dalton 20 and the Dalton Laptops

As of August 10, 2009 Dalton 20 and the Dalton laptop cart are no longer booked via the College Communications Center (a.k.a. Webmail or Zimbra) and will be booked via EMS in keeping with other classrooms and resources.

Getting Started with the Dalton Laptops:

  • Book the laptops and a space to use them (Dalton 20 or another Dalton Classroom).
  • If you haven’t used these machines before and need orientation, please contact Multimedia Services in advance and make an appointment to get familiar with what’s needed.
  • Multimedia will deliver the cart to your classroom before the beginning of your class or meeting period.
  • You or your class attendees will need to remove the laptops you will need from the cart and set them up where you want them.  Each individual should log in with his or her own account.
  • Please spend 5 minutes toward the end of your class period to shut off the machines and prepare them to be returned to the cart.  If you return them to the cart, please plug them in and note any problems which occurred.

Booking for Dalton 20 and the laptops:

  • If you will need either of these resources for a semester long course, please contact the registrar’s office as per http://www.brynmawr.edu/registrar/SchedulingClassrooms.html
  • For occasional use, please book these items directly in Virtual EMS (instructions available here http://www.brynmawr.edu/conferences/reservespace/instructvirtems.htm) — if you have trouble with this, please contact Conferences and Events or speak with your departmental secretary as she may be able to assist.
  • Dalton 20 is set up for use as a computer classroom, but will no longer have desktop computers.  To use computers in this space, please book *both* the laptops and the classroom.
  • If you need to book the laptops, they must be used in Dalton, in a classroom with tables.  They can be booked independently or in conjunction with any applicable Dalton space.  You can book these without booking Dalton 20.  The laptops can be booked only as a set and should not be separated at any time.
  • The Dalton Laptops have a wide selection of Academic software, but may not have everything.  If you will need specific software to be on the laptops, please contact the Help Desk a minimum of 3 days in advance.  In order to ensure consistent usability and software legality, faculty and staff members cannot make software changes to this pool of computers.  Support Services staff will need sufficient time to update the machines during a time period when they are unused.
  • Please leave time before and after you need the equipment to properly return the equipment to the cart.

Reporting problems with the Dalton laptops:

  • Problems occurring at class time and requiring immediate assistance should be reported directly to Multimedia Services.
  • To report a problem which occurred but which did not require immediate assistance, please add the computer’s number (Dalton 1-20) and a description of the problem to the log form on the top of the cart.  Alternatively, you can choose to call or email the Help Desk about this problem.
