Information Services extends an enthusiastic "welcome" to the class of 2017 as well as new graduate students, post-bacs and transfer students, and a hearty "welcome back!" to returning students.
We've been hard at work this summer, and would like to share a few important pieces of news with you:
Virtual Bryn Mawr has been re-branded as BIONIC, the Bi-Co Online Information Center. Everything that you previously did in Virtual Bryn Mawr (register for classes, pay bills) you can now do in BIONIC, and the process for doing so has not changed. There are some significant improvements, too! Beginning this fall, you can:
- Browse a Bi-Co course catalog
- Register for classes at Bryn Mawr and Haverford
We hope you agree this will greatly improve the experience of taking classes at both campuses, thanks to the SEADS Initiative.

Student Resources Fair
Thursday, August 29th from 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. This event is especially for new students, but all are welcome!
Preview the services of the three College libraries, the computing Help Desk and the rest of Information Services. Sign up for tours of the libraries, get hands-on with Archives & Rare Books and enter to win wonderful prizes. Other student resources staff will be on hand including the religious advisers, and sign-up will be available for your campus work-study job with Dining Services.
Print Quota Suspended
Returning students will remember that in the fall of 2011, the College implemented a printing quota designed to reduce the amount of printing in public labs. The goals were to meet the College’s budget objectives as well as to promote environmental responsibility.
At the time that the quota was implemented, the costs associated with printing had been rising at a rate of 30% annually for several years. In the last two years, we have seen these costs begin to level. In turn, the College has decided to suspend the printing quota. Students will not be charged for printing in excess of a set limit.
The College remains committed to controlling printing costs, and continues to experiment with ways to use less paper in the classroom. Information Services looks forward to a continuing partnership with different student-run organizations to foster responsible use of College and environmental resources. Eric Pumroy, Acting Cheif Information Officer, will attend the SGA meeting on September 15th to talk about printing.
This fall, watch for our new print management software, Papercut. Print management systems (where the user has to log in and “release” their print job before it prints) have been shown to reduce printing waste with or without a quota in place. Papercut gives us many options for ensuring the decision to print is conscious and intentional without necessarily subtracting prints from a quota or accruing a bill. Log into Papercut to view your environmental impact. Updated instructions will be posted on the Technology Documentation Blog.
Managing Your College Account
Information Services has implemented a new system for managing your College password. Visit password.brynmawr.edu to set up new security questions. You do not need to change your password at this time; your password will expire six months after the last time you changed it. Also a part of the SEADS Initiative, the new system will allow you to:
- Log into accounts at both campuses using the same username and password
- Log into lab computers on both campuses with your home credentials
- Request a password change from either College’s Help Desk
Haverford and Bryn Mawr now share some systems including Account Management. You will find yourself at a haverford.edu web page where both Bryn Mawr and Haverford accounts are managed. If you have any questions about the authenticity of a website or email, please contact the Help Desk.
When you do change your password, we encourage you to use a pass phrase. Pass phrases, i.e. "MaryHad1LittleLamb", are easier to remember and harder to crack.
