In response to student requests for additional access to computers and library resources during exams, 24-hour access to Canaday Library is being offered to Bryn Mawr students on a trial basis this semester. 24-hour access will begin on Friday, December 4th at 8am and will last until Friday, December 18th at 5pm.
During this time, Canaday Library will continue to be open to the entire community during the usual semester hours. After hours, the building will be accessible to students via OneCard. We've recently been asked by several students and faculty members how HC and SC students can login to Bryn Mawr labs and public computers.
Any Haverford or Swarthmore student who is registered for a Bryn Mawr class can stop by the Help Desk and obtain a username and password which allows him or her to log into public and lab computers, print, access library resources, and store files.
Haverford and Swarthmore students can only obtain these logins in person as sufficient data is not provided by HC and SC to verify identities over the phone.
These accounts are automatically generated on ...

Apple is hard at work for its new release of Snow Leopard (aka Mac OS 10.6), and Information Services looks forward to testing the new platform out. Until we can thoroughly test this new release, we will not be deploying this to any machine on campus. At this time we cannot provide support for support this new version or its features, nor can we make any statements or recommendations about it. Please check back in a few weeks to hear more. If upgrading quickly is of interest to you, please contact the Help Desk (x7440, help@brynmawr.edu) ...

SUBJECT: Scheduled Email Maintenance
DATE: 08/21/2009
TIME: 5:30pm - 7:30pm
BUILDINGS AFFECTED: Entire Community
SERVICES AFFECTED: Email
DESCRIPTION: We will be rerouting our outgoing email through spam filtering.
WHY?
We have been filtering incoming mail for over two years and have seen a great reduction in spam received. This new change will be to protect ourselves from Bryn Mawr email accounts that have been "hijacked". Due to phishing (maliciously deceptive emails that request user credentials), several instances of bulk spam being sent from Bryn Mawr have occurred. This has resulting in prominent internet service providers like Microsoft, Yahoo, and Comcast intermittently blocking ...

Recently, there have been many new releases of Internet browsers: Microsoft released Internet Explorer 8, Apple has released Safari 4, and we expect that Mozilla will soon release Firefox 3.5. While these new programs may provide new feature sets as well as faster browsing experiences, they have not yet been fully tested by the Information Services department. We are hard at work at trying out these latest products and seeing how they interact with our present Bryn Mawr College services.
Please note that since many of the Bryn Mawr College services are accessed via the Web (Virtual Bryn Mawr, ...

The recent upgrade made it easier to add events to someone else's calendar within your account (sometimes called a "proxy" calendar).
In the earlier version the software always put your default calendar as the calendar where the event should be displayed and you needed to choose the desired calendar from the drop-down (see graphic)
.
This was true even if your default calendar was "unchecked" and not visible.
With the upgrade on June 5th, this can behave differently. If you unselect all calendars by right-clicking on "v Calendar" ...

On Friday evening, the Bryn Mawr Communication Center (a.k.a Webmail or Zimbra) underwent its second upgrade since it was installed last June.
If you are reading this email in the Communication Center, you have probably noticed that it doesn’t look very different. This upgrade did not change the “look and feel” very much; the purpose of this upgrade was to offer some improvements, and correct a few “bugs” that people had reported.
Many of this upgrade’s benefits will be invisible to you because they affect the administration tools and server directly; a brief summary of the changes you will see is available ...
